Thanksgiving
My Friend Was There ] One Little Rose ] Wit's End Corner ]

Thank God for dirty dishes, They have a story to tell:
For by the stack I have, it seems that we are living well.

While folks of some countries starve, I haven't the heart to fuss,
For this stack of evidence shows to me --- GOD IS VERY GOOD TO US!!!!

When I couldn't sleep, I used to count sheep, As I tossed on my restless bed, But since I have come to know HIM, I quietly like and talk to the Shepard instead.
~Alice H. Mortenson

Here are some ideas, thoughts and Scriptures to use in your devotions at this season of Thanksgiving. They can be used with a family group or if you are alone.

READ: Psalm 34 Psalm 103 Colossians 3:17
Psalm 107:1 Psalm 89:1 I Thessalonians 5:18
Psalm 40:5 Psalm 106:1 Luke 17:12-16

Be sure to serve some spiritual food from God's Word with your Thanksgiving Dinner.
~Mother Jones

If we would praise God more, we would have more to praise Him for.

Cultivate the ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE.

Some conversation ideas to use at the dinner table or while visiting in the family living room (suggested by Carol Jones)

  • Using your initials (or the initials of each one in the group), tell several things you are thankful for which begin with those letters. Encourage each person to participate.
EXAMPLE: B.L.J. -- Bible, birds; light, laughter; joy, a job.
  • Again using your initials, tell things you are thankful for which are mentioned in the Bible.
EXAMPLE: C.J.J. -- Cross, comfort; justice, Jesus, Joseph.
  • Create the first line of a couplet for each person in the group; then ask each person to complete the couplet in rhyme.
EXAMPLE: I am thankful for songs of praise; (given)
And I'm thankful for my nice new raise. (as completed)
        --OR--
I am thankful to God I can go to school; (given)
I'm thankful I was taught the Golden Rule. (as completed)

Early on Thanksgiving morning, before my family awakened, I began to form a list entitled, Reasons for Gratitude. Then, halfway down the page, I thoughtfully wondered--"Lord, do I give you any reasons to be thankful for me?"

A thankful heart DOUBLES our blessings, causing us to enjoy them twice--when we receive them, and when we remember them.

When you do not feel like praying, try praising!"
