Symbols of Christmas
Some symbols of Christmas and the meanings that they hold as we use them:
- WREATH - Its circular shape represents everlasting life and the circle of
family. Its presence on a door represents "welcome."
- A STAR - The star of Bethlehem led the way to the Christ Child. Scriptures
refer to Jesus as "the Bright and Morning Star."
- CANDLES and LIGHTS - We celebrate the birth of the Light of the World.
Candles are also used to light the way (symbolically) for the Christ Child.
- BELLS - They are rung to represent the JOY that came to the world when
Christ was born. Often the ringing increases near midnight to declare
Christ's arrival. "Ring the BELLS; Ring the BELLS..."
- EVERGREENS - These stay green all year; bear fruit in the winter; they
remind us of never-ending life.
Gifts Christ has for You!
BLESSINGS in abundance!
STRENGTH for every way!
COURAGE for each trial!
GLADNESS for each day!
FAITH in Heaven's guidance!
HOPE that's firm and true!
After Christmas is Over...
When the song of the angel is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
THE WORK OF CHRISTMAS BEGINS:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among brothers,
To make music in the heart,
To tell ALL about the Saviour!
